Lee Development Group (LDG) as the developer of record and the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) are co-applicants for the development of a mixed-use project (residential and ground level retail) in downtown Silver Spring.
- The Elizabeth Square Project consists of three buildings on the block bordered by Fenwick Lane, Apple Avenue, Second Avenue and the railroad/metro tracks.
- HOC currently owns and manages Elizabeth House and Alexander House. Alexander House, built in 1992, is a 16-story apartment building which will be renovated.
- Elizabeth House, built in 1966, is a 10 story building with 160 affordable units for seniors which will be replaced by a mixed use building as the final phase of the project.
- The third property on the block, a townhouse style office complex built in 1953 has been demolished for the new Elizabeth House. Current plans call for 267 units and 137,148 sf of publicly owned and operated public-use space to include picnic/seating areas,fitness facilities and wellness center operated by Holy Cross. In 2017 the South County Regional Recreation and Aquatic Center was was added to the project with aquatic competitive facilities (olympic size pool and diving boards) and basketball courts.
- The Project & Preliminary Plan for the Elizabeth Square project was approved by the Planning Board on July 23, 2015. The revised site plan for the new Elizabeth House was approved in December of 2017.
- The new Elizabeth House will be built by the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission.
